Información específica de la prueba
Polydactyly, also known as Preaxial Polydactyly (PPD) is a developmental abnormality in dogs that causes the growth of extra toes on the hind legs. Specifically, polydactyly restores the first toe that was lost over the course of the evolution of the wolf, giving affected dogs a fifth toe known as a “dewclaw”. This specific variant (DC-2) is caused by a dominant mutation to the Limb Development Membrane Protein 1 (LMBR1) gene that affects the expression of the sonic hedgehog (SHH) gene.
This test measures the mutation known as DC-2. Another mutation, DC-1, is found in Sapsari and Tosa dogs.
Características clínicas
Los perros afectados desarrollan un dedo extra, o espolón, en sus patas traseras.
